What a busy summer its been at Little Cakes! At the end of August, we said goodbye to a lovely group of children as they headed off to start an exciting new chapter at their new schools.
It’s been our busiest summer yet, filled with special moments, from Sports Day and Graduation to plenty of glorious sunshine, which meant we were able to spend most of our time outdoors. The children have also been busy in the garden, planting and harvesting vegetables. So far, we’ve grown cherry tomatoes, aubergines, and spinach! As we move into the Autumn term, we’re excited to watch the world change just outside our doorstep — from the vibrant leaves falling from the trees to collecting apples and conkers for our seasonal crafts and maths activities. It’s a wonderful time of year for learning and exploration. |

Sports Day In July, we held our annual Nursery Sports Day, and what a fantastic day it was! Our pre-schoolers took part in some friendly (and very enthusiastic!) competition, including balancing beanbags on their heads, egg-and-spoon races, and running races. The children showed great determination, teamwork, and lots of smiles! Meanwhile, our little ones in the baby room joined in the fun with activities specially tailored for them such as crawling through tunnels and aiming beanbags into hoops. It was lovely to see their excitement and growing confidence. |
Graduation At the end of August, we proudly celebrated a very special milestone, our annual Graduation Ceremony for the children leaving Little Cakes to begin their exciting journey to ‘Big School’.
In preparation for the big day, the children had great fun learning songs from West End musicals from The Sound of Music and Matilda. Their performances were full of joy, confidence, and enthusiasm! They also created lovely butterfly canvas art pieces, which were proudly displayed during our annual art exhibition at graduation. During the ceremony, each child was warmly congratulated by staff and presented with a Certificate of Achievement, recognising their unique journey and all they’ve accomplished during their time with us. To finish off the morning, we enjoyed a visit from our local ice cream man and enjoyed ice creams in the garden, a perfect end to a very memorable day.
It was an emotional farewell, filled with pride, love, and a few happy tears from both staff and parents. We are so proud of each and every child, and we wish them all the best as they take their next big step into primary school. |

New Build
As many of you are aware, we are excited to share that work on our new nursery building is now underway! We are aiming for completion by the end of the year. However, as with all construction projects, there may be some unforeseen delays along the way. We want to reassure you that safety remains our top priority throughout this process. The construction company we have chosen has extensive experience working with nurseries, Katie and I were able to visit their warehouse and workspace to see first-hand the quality and care they bring to their projects.
Staff Wellbeing at Little Cakes
At Little Cakes, we truly value the hard work, dedication, and positivity our team brings every single day. This summer, as a small token of appreciation, staff were treated to mini head, neck, and shoulder massages during their breaks, a relaxing moment to unwind and recharge!
Looking after our team’s wellbeing is a top priority. As the colder months approach, we’ll continue to focus on supporting our staff, making sure they feel cared for and ready to give their best to the children in their care. Working long shifts in such an energetic environment can be tiring, but our amazing team always manages to keep a smile on their faces, lifting each other up and creating a joyful atmosphere for all. The children keep us young at heart, and the team’s passion and teamwork keep Little Cakes running with love and laughter.
Thank you to each and every member of our team. You are truly the heart of our nursery.
Operation Compass
We are proud to be part of Operation Encompass, a national initiative that supports children and families who may be affected by domestic abuse. Operation Encompass is a partnership between education settings and the police. It ensures that when the police are called to an incident of domestic abuse where a child is present, the school or nursery is informed prior to the start of the next day. This allows us to provide immediate and tailored support to the child, helping them feel safe, valued, and understood. Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL), have been trained to liaise with the police and ensure the right support is put in place swiftly and sensitively. |
